Sunnydale Ledger Entry for Thursday
(( My apologies to the Accounting Department for this being a little late -- it's been hectic up here. ))

SUNNYDALE ADJUSTMENTS
----------------------------

Buffy: +2 (diligent in her world protecting), -2 (overcaffeinated attacking of innocent stuffed animal in sleep), +1 (not making fun of Giles' bedhead -- much)
= +1 karma adjustment (no line at the Starbucks on the highway to Nunavut)

Willow: +4 (talking DoppleXander out of vamping people), +1 (not picking on Andrew when it would be so easy to do so)
= +5 karma adjustment (classified benefit to be revealed at next budget meeting)

Xander: +2 (being antagonized by vampire doppleganger), -1 (ate entire box of Krispy Kreme from stress), -1 (not catching blatant teddy bear clues)
= +/- 0 karma adjustment (he's going to feel those Krispy Kreme's in the morning, but his pants still fit. Really.)

Giles: +3 (dedication to tea prompts city-wide break out of tea houses in Seattle), -2 (called a bike messenger a poncy git after nearly being run over)
= +1 adjustment (no bed head tomorrow)

Spike: +4 (saving the house from demonic dolls), -1 (extremely ill-advised matchmaking), -1 (kitten-napping), +1 (replacing broken 'Open Mic' mug)
= +3 adjustment (Buffy has sweet dreams of Spike Love)

Slayers-in-Training (Collective): -1 (panicking at the sight of demonic dolls), +2 (not destroying the house, again), -1 (hints of bloodshed over continued bathroom stress)
= +/- 0 karma adjustment (NOBODY DIES TODAY)

Andrew: +3 (surprisingly good poem), -1 (musical taste. ugh)
= +2 karma adjustment (Only +63 to go until positive numbers!)

New Entry
---------

Angmar, Witch-King of: Due to copyright issues, I can't go into detail. Sufficed to say, the Witch-King has been cruising on neutral to slightly negative points due to unleashing a Singing Demon onto Sunnydale, while at the same time counseling its residents into a rather more lucid state.
= +/- 0 karma adjustment. Refer case to the Valar for processing.

*sigh*

And here I thought I'd been doing so well, with the bathroom repairs, the new shelves, and the field trip. Must try harder, 'cause karma points are nifty.

But, Krispy Kremes... they must be on the good side. They are too yummy and happy to be evil. And I respect them.

Ah, but they are goodness, yes.

Not -sharing- them is what got you docked points, my dear. Naughty. We Powers enjoy our little fluffy circles of joy just like everyone else!

Donuts definitely not demonic. Except for the whole 'fat goes right to your hips' thing, that's kinda evil.

You, Miss Summers, are being temporarily held from the ledgers.

Just until I figure out what to do about you.

Refer case to the Valar for processing.

Well, 'tis obvious there will be no progress there.

Then again, I have come to expect no progress. Four Ages have gone by. I suppose I shall continue to be a servant of Evil, at least until I get another Seventh.

Hmm. How many Karma points does it take to warrant a Seventh?

Us wicked and hazy-shades-of-gray are going to be kept in a different ledger, divided by geographic region... or so the Powers assured me last night.

And Buffy is getting a chance to experience observe Giles with bedhead how, exactly?

*rolls eyes*

What you're intimating, Anon, is incredibly disturbing.

The slayer and Giles and Kennedy have gone on a trip to gather together more slayerettes, hence bein' on the road together and whatnot.

Admit freely that previously dating Finn and my grandsire showed distinct lack of judgement on Buffy's part, but Rupert?! The girl does have SOME good taste. *points to self as example*

Hey, I just meant that things must be getting pretty intense if "Mr. Together" isn't even bothering to comb his hair before appearing in public. And as far as "disturbing" goes, weren't you the one who said you had always wondered about the two of them?

Poor taste indeed. Something kept that supermodel he used to date coming back -- until things got too scary, that is. I wonder why? Let's see: kind, good-looking, capable, lovely singing voice, still relatively young (born in the latter half of the 20th century), extremely intelligent, sufficiently physically skilled to train a Slayer -- nope, can't think what it could possibly have been. Clearly you're right; any woman who would choose a man with that combination of traits must have dreadful taste.

That was a JOKE. Perhaps you're not familiar with the concept.

joke n. 1 anything said or done to arouse laughter, specif., a) a funny anecdote with a punch line b) an amusing trick played on someone 2 the humorous element in a situation 3 a thing done or said merely in fun 4 a person or thing to be laughed at, not to be taken seriously beccause absurd, ridiculous, etc. -- Webster's New World College Dictionary, 3rd ed. New York: Macmillan, 1986; p. 729

If you say so, Spike. The intonation didn't sound like it, especially given the circumstances and the statement to which you were replying, but I'll take your word for it on the theory that you probably have a better idea of what goes on in your head than I do.

Speaking of jokes, my original question regarding observation of Giles' bedhead was actually a member of that tribe. Have to say I agree with you re: Buffy's previous taste in boyfriends (big and boring -- the first had one facial expression, if that, and the second was a refugee from a cornflakes commercial), as well as re: your opinion of yourself (ego much?). It's pretty obvious that you're exponentially sexier and more interesting than Those Who Went Before, although the latter point isn't all that difficult. (Hell, I've got furniture more interesting than those two, and several dresses that leave them in the dust.) But you've apparently got these endless (and shameless) legions of female admirers, and, well, somebody needed to stick up for the other attractive Brit among those attempting to prevent the Sunnydale apocalypse (as opposed to the Los Angeles one).

Having used up my ration of parentheses, I am, as always,

She who is too lazy to get her own Live Journal and must therefore be Anonymous

I'm not sure whether that's hitting below the belt or kicking a vampire when he's down, but either way it's not kosher, being a) a mean-spirited personal attack interjected into an "all in good fun" exchange, and b) a statement as unfair as it was irrelevant to the previous discussion topic. Consider the things Angelus did while soulless. Do you hold each and every one of them against the ensouled Angel as a black mark on his personal character? As for the blame accruing to Spike for that event, I've already written a more in-depth analysis (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=red_witch&itemid=6673&thread=59153#t59153) elsewhere, so I won't recap now.

And anyhow, if you're gonna slam Spike (or anyone else), at least be creative. Witty, clever insults earn significant coolness points. Yours just makes you look mean and unimaginative.
